Nutmeg Residence: "Pet Palace"

This residential expansion involved building a 600sf master suite with a panoramic deck and spa overlooking a terraced natural canyon. Because the clients were intense animal lovers, several custom details emerged in the design to enhance their ability to enjoy the all the animals around their home. To solve the need for a master bathroom and closet, a 5 foot band was designed as a new facade for the home. This new exterior becomes a type of domestic advertising for the clients' interests and incorporates outdoor lounging areas for them as well as their pets. For example, the indoor cats can be napping on a series of sloping levels next to their sunbathing owners, protected from the canyon hawks by a layer of shaded glass. Green eco-friendly construction was emphasized with the reuse of materials and recycled products for many of the exterior finishes and landscaping.
